Dystopian Choices: Marc Jacobs Fall 2022

by brownfashionagal

Marc gets bigger, brighter and definitely dramatic. Continuing from last season’s concept, this collection reveals a self-assured side of the brand. Voluminous silhouettes were crafted out of unusual materials; the clothes were statement makers. The couture-like proportions CDG reminiscent and the colors rather cheerful; looks meant for a post-apocalyptic pastel birthday party? With bleached eyebrows and partially shaved heads, the girls did look fierce. Chunky knitted oversized sweaters, bold white kiki boots, tiny tiny bikini tops, shiny vinyl parkas, massive bags and some body-engulfing dresses that looked like models walking with blankets over their heads. The duality in this collection is remarkable; the blend of edginess and softness is the brilliance of Marc Jacobs. “We have art in order not to die of the truth.” stated the show notes quoting Friedrich Nietzsche. The truth he was referring to is probably the Roe v. Wade situation that directly questioned ‘Choice’, which was also the title of the show.
