The most theatrical show of the season. The way Jeremy Scott presented a blend of surrealism and camp is truly magical. It all started with a sketch of a cabinet, later modeled by Gigi Hadid on the runway. This collection featured everything you could find in a house( a very old money vintage house) – cuckoo clock, cabinets, huge golden harps, mirrors, drawers lampshade and gorgeous gorgeous upholstery. The details are highlights always; the gold details, couture-like accessories and dramatic Stephen Jones headpieces.
One of the most defining looks was a black skirt suit with gold detailing and cutout windows at the buttocks worn over a gold beaded bralette. A silver serving tray was transformed into a sculpted bustier. One look had a headpiece that was lighting up the painting the model wore on her torso; it doesn’t get more real than that. Pieces decorated with golden cutlery were inspired by the archives. A gold gown looks pretty from the front but is a full human-sized harp on the back, talk about plot twist.
Scott told vogue “I was thinking about the furniture you’d find in a mansion: the Chesterfield dresser, grandfather clocks, picture frames, Persian rugs, birdcages,”. The set design was a replica of based on the movie ‘2001: A Space Odyssey Models walked in a 90s-esque style, loaded with extra glam and attitude. Scott directed each model backstage to truly capture the essence of each look. And to close the show we have Scott in a bright red spacesuit, he knows how to create a moment.
This is a brand that is meant for the runway. The thing about a Moschino lineup is that every collection will be visually and aesthetically far from each other but the unifying factor is in its amusing artistic charm. Scott had played around with a lot of concepts from Barbie to burger and Marie Antoinette to Picasso. Maximalist is a word too small to describe Jeremy Scott and his vision. There could not have been someone more suitable to run Moschino. He is a gem.
