Among the more iconic McQueen shows like ‘Plato Atlantis’, ‘Voss’ this masterpiece collection by Sarah Burton gets lost at times. The blend of quintessential dark McQueen with Sarah’s exquisite femininity here remains unmatched. Haute couture could shy away from the intricacies and craftsmanship of the clothes here; art more than clothes.
This lineup collection was from a time when Burton was more dramatic and in touch with the McQueen extravaganza within the exceptional storytelling process. Compared to this collection recent collections have been greatly commercial but still build upon Lee’s legacy Burton gracefully honors and her own identity.
The clothes in this collection carry typical McQueen classics; the details, the construction and the excruciating brilliant thought behind each deceptive detail makes one wonder, a lot. Talking of details let’s dive deep, take a look at number 10. What looks like a printed or laser cut code is actually black leather with white cut sheared fur sewn over. The 3 final gowns in pink, red and black were not actually feathers but were tiny pieces of silk tulle arranged to look like fluffy fur. In just 34 looks we see an artful range of silhouettes, textures and tailoring. An added bonus was the huge dark visors intimidating everyone while shielding the model’s faces.
“It’s futurism with softness, not cold futurism” said Burton about the collection. This collection was certainly optimistic conventionally feminine and greatly romantic size than any other McQueen collection till date at the time. A sensational luxe moment indeed.
