Let’s get to it, Here’s your quick little guide to sustainable fashion
Buy Smart: Do you really NEED that dress? the answer is almost always No. It’s pretty simple actually, think before buying! Many times we are swayed by super tempting discounts and ultra-trendy trends, let’s try to resist that.
Research: But how can you shop smart, Research Baby! Try to learn about the garment you are buying, where it was made, the brand behind , who manufactured it, who designed it, what are fabrics and most importantly Is this an ethical-sustainable-useful purchase? It might be a hassle initially but you’ll learn the lingo soon enough and soon be a true fashion(able) detective.
Shop less: Quality over Quantity. It’s high time we stop doing massive hauls and stop propagating the same. Don’t do or even watch those pathetic fast fashion hauls, you may be tempted to buy 5 items for 10 dollars but trust me, buy one quality piece for 20 and it’ll last for a long time. Also, don’t forget to clear up your closet.
Shift to sustainable brands: This not only helps us to make more sustainable fashion choices but also lets us support emerging ethical brands. This is an important consideration not only in fashion but in everything your purchase. After all, we all want to encourage and associate brands that do good work (I hope)
Thrift: Thrifting is the new cool and you better get on it. Though it’s not just a trend thrift culture is on the rise and we must keep it that way. You’ll end up finding some gems and one-of-a-kind pieces you wouldn’t expect.
Research and buy: Before shopping from anywhere make sure to read the labels and do your research. Where it was made, by whom, the fabric, the care instructions, etc all these little things leave a huge impact not only on our consumption pattern but on
Repair: Let’s not throw away our garments just because of a tear or a stain. Care and Repair is the new motto and it’s super easy too. It doesn’t have to be just clothes you can mend shoes and bags too, nothing a good cobbler cant do. While mending your items you may have the chance to add a little something new to give them a new dimension. It’s time we get over the idea that ‘new is better.
Repurpose: Bring out your DIY crafty side and give new life to an old shirt or a pair of pants you never wore. There are more ways than you can imagine how you can bring new life to your clothes, trust me YouTube and Pinterest will be your saviors here. Give your clothes a new life!
Educate: Be the fashion police but instead of judging the style choices try to inform your friends and family all about slow-sustainable-ethical fashion and why it’s important.
And you’re good to go!
