The collection was called “Happiness” did really live up to its name. Jacobs returned to the runway after a year, held inside the magnificent New York Public Library. The glamour and extravagance were pouring out of my mobile screen. The overwhelming silhouettes that engulfed the models completely were quite brilliant. The supersized use of the brand name somehow capitalizing on and mocking the logomania was quite smart, Quintessential Jacobs. Two big black and white puffer looks with a swirly print were all sort of trippy. Some puffer skirts with a homely print reminds one of a whimsical blanket you just wanna curl up in.
The color palette was so vast, it hardly was a palette; black and white, vivid romantics, some grounded neutrals and a little bit of neon. Large holographic paillettes added dimension to the clothes very reminiscent of Paco Rabbane,of course. Sky high platforms (almost 10 inches) were a reminder of his staple while displaying his understanding of trends and the ever-changing market. There were stoles and scarfs but not your typical old Hermes-silk kinda scarfs but huge puffers, fur, satin and whatnot. You’re basically carrying a mini bed with you. Some subtle cutouts were featured in a few looks, they were super sexy. Oversized puffer jackets, giant floor-length coats, flared pants, lively snoods were the undisputed highlights of this collection.
“Our decision to pause allowed us to slow down, reflect, ruminate, reevaluate, grieve and take a thorough inventory of what works, what doesn’t work, what we love, what we are willing to let go of and what has value, importance and meaning,” said the show notes. The runway pictures shot from the side emphasized the silhouettes. Jacobs partnered with the New York-based luxury retailer Bergdorf Goodman for this collection. “Through the physicality of this shared experience, I hope to offer a moment of inspiration, curiosity, wonder, and possibility.” and he did.
