Aleksandre Akhalkatsishvili is my newest obsession and I couldn’t be happier, obsessing over his work is most of how have spent the last few days. His Fall 2020 collection is his work at a truest form and we explore that here.
The colors in this show was substantially diverse with neutrals, a brilliant Cobalt blue to statement red and pretty pastels it had something for everyone. The collection starts with some suits with straight pants and a structured blazer nipped at the waist, with more vintage energy these suits were traditional an idea but dynamic in details. A look of Black faux leather pants and crop jacket was quite rockstar chic and Two blazer dresses with underarm cutouts and ruching were beautifully made. Then came a faux leather blue suit dress with a bra detail over it; it was delightful. Clean lines, minimal silhouettes, sharp cuts, brilliant fabric manipulation are just some of the strengths of Akhalkatsishvili and leveraged all of them in this collection. Looks with similar elements followed; leather diamond-shaped cutouts and precise silhouettes with sharp details. A faux leather bralette worn over a wool coat dress is the perfect blend of conservative looks and a brazen sex appeal which is a persistent concept throughout the collection. Some more trench coats with attached bra details again were magnificent.
Akhalkatsishvili is a designer of today and provides a subtle nod to conventional femininity while exploring more dominant vivid styles. Akhalkatsishvili said in an interview that he admires Comme des Garçons and Jil Sander and surprisingly to some extent I do see a bit of both. Within a minimal classic energy, he plays with fabric, shapes, and forms. An Akhalkatsishvili woman is elegant, provocative, and badass and we are here for it.
