And Daniel Roseberry does it again. Not only he takes Elsa Schiaparelli’s surrealism to new levels, he cements his place in Schiaparelli and Couture.
“If you want to look like a cupcake, you can go somewhere else,” Even though Roseberry said this jokingly it points out the old school perception we have of Couture. 1950’s ballgowns and princessy dresses can take a side seat while we admire the Bizarre Couture aka Schiaparelli. The exploration of conventional couture ideas with grotesque elements was the pillar of this collection along with Roseberry’s valiance.
The collection began with a stunning black molded bodice with a six-pack, we saw a sneak peek of this on Kim Kardashian’s Christmas look. Playing around with the human body and reimagining it on various materials and techniques guided us to the strength of a woman(a quite ripped woman). A brown leather molded minidress with a coordinated bag was frightening yet fascinating. Luke Meagher rightly pointed out in his review how all the more conventionally masculinized looks were sported by black women, conforming to the unfair stereotypes.
Fluffy cloud-like silhouettes, gold-covered body parts, measuring tape, and bizarre teeth were some of the highlights. Extravagant use of gold was seen in the gold toed shoes and the enormous earrings which quite brilliant but felt forced on some looks. A vivid pink gown that seemed to be held by the model’s earrings was stunning. A sleeveless hooded dress with a gold baby being breastfed is all sorts of iconic. A crisp white finale look reminds one of a pristine Dilophosaurus.
The amount of time I spend dreaming of Roseberry’s Schiaparelli is ridiculously worrying, but please shower me with more of this worry.
