After the extravagance and drunken antics of Galliano, everything seemed toned down. Well, toned down for Dior, the walls were covered end to end in peonies, goldenrod, dahlias, carnations, delphiniums, and roses.

The collection began with a masterfully tailored black suit: a take on the iconic Bar Suit, more artful interpretations followed. It spoke volumes in the direction he took Dior to: Structured, feminine, and sensibly simple. A vivid red belted coat-dress was absolutely brilliant. Mostly comprised of strapless and structured gowns the eveningwear was magnificent. A bright yellow gown with a translucent top was glorious along with a green-black strapless gown which was a Sterling Ruby painting. It was beautiful silhouettes and pleasant colors paired with a fresh sense of Haute Couture.

Simons never struck me as a minimalist, his every look is filled with detailed grandeur and richness that simply is imperceptible to many. What was fascinating about this show is that how with a heritage-rich brand like Dior, Raf wasn’t overly lost in history and vintage aesthetic but infused his much-needed modernity and pragmatism.

Rare moments in history present us with a collection in which each and every look is better than the one before and yes this was one of them. Classic Christian Dior silhouettes paired with the modernity of Raf Simons was as iconic as it was necessary.
