Power dressing with an emphasis on Power, within a cobalt blue world a classic Demna collection was shown. In his words, he “reimagines dressing for work- power dressing, no matter what one does as a job.”
Beginning with some genderless slouchy suits, we saw found some neatly tailored dresses which were conventional in idea but daring in execution. Co-ords in leather and denim were of course oversized like most of the show. The workwear was dramatic and over the top but somehow practical and real. Square box shoulders, a range of vivid prints, and slogan t-shirts with “b@len©i@9a” “H2O” and ”18+’ were the standouts here. Exaggerated outerwear featured some rigid belted trenches in various materials and huge huge puffer jackets. Two perfectly fitted catsuits in a tiger print covered in sequins was a necessary contrast to the unrealistic shapes shown. The invisible makeup looks were complemented by exaggerated cheekbones and huge lips. Accessories were on point, some quirky earrings, square-toed shoes, boots, Tyrex sneakers, and some risky heels. It was the bags that stood out, deeply pragmatic and beautifully crafted started with some handbags perfect to stuff your laptop in, statement triangle bags, pouches, and Hello Kitty bags.
The final five looks were an ode to Cristóbal Balenciaga like never before. Wearable ballgowns over a crinoline in a seamlessly sculpted silhouette covered in velvet with three variations in red, black, and blue and two metallic looks in gold and silver with bows behind were wonderfully climactic.
