Back when supermodels ruled the runway and Chanel was being rebranded by Karl Lagerfeld, we got golden moments in the brand’s history and something called ’90s Chanel’.
The collection starts with a number of a cropped colorful jackets pair with high waisted skirts with a slit down the center with complementary underwear. Paired with some now-iconic square quilted box bags and totes among others and the chain belts. Followed some more conservative versions of the Chanel jackets in bright colors. Then came some plaid tweet coat suit skirt suits with a mild hourglass silhouette. A stunning lavender skirt suit which is forever burned in my brain came along. Moving on to LBD’s there were various variations each playful and flirty. After some suits came some printed dresses which were pretty hard to forget. Then came Claudia Schiffer in a Chanel logo splattered bathrobe, as the robe slid down we saw a red bedazzled bikini. The same followed the runway in several colors paired with robes, belts, and bags. Yasmeen Ghauri sported a cobalt blue swimsuit which defines stunning. After some forgettable all-black looks we saw some super-sheer meshy dresses, worn over the sparkling thongs *chefs kiss*. Post some black cut out dresses, white tuxedos, and cute costume-y organza wrapped dresses models came down the runway sitting on the shoulders of hunky men. A reference to a similar picture of Coco Chanel, the models were dressed with little to no variation. A quite cheeky and playful collection that is still relevant today partly due to nostalgia.
Then came Karl holding a hand fan laughing and blowing kisses, visibly proud of his work surrounded by models among the chaos that is fashion. Among the coordinated chaos, the models walked freely and lively and the essence of Chanel was experienced by all.
