Finally, a collection truly inspired by the stay at home pandemic life, Silvia Venturini Fendi presented the last collection before Kim Jones takes over. The simplicity of the show was delicately balanced with its luxurious yet grounded clothes. With impeccable tailoring and weightlessness, the materials were tablecloth-like fabrics, linen, cotton, and silk among other materials that one might easily find at home, this collection was a blend of brazen and subtle references. Colors were mostly neutrals consisting of white, off-white, beige, brown, black, grey, a tiny bit of blue, and a burst of a stunning deep red. With a cozy yet roomy runway with airy white curtains flowing, the ambiance was as pleasant as it could be.
Past few months the outside world has been limited to a window for most of us, the first look in this collection began with a print of a shadow taken by Silvia Fendi from her bedroom window. A few looks followed a similar pattern then came series of looks in white and shades of white from dresses, coats, suits among more. There came a beautiful off-white dress paired with bright pink gloves, bags, and shoes which was stunning. One of my favorite looks from the collection was a blue sheer lace dress over a bright orange bodysuit, paired with an orange bag and pink shoes, it was perfection. Every time with a Fendi show there is stunning outerwear, this time there was a white double-breasted coat/coat dress with flared sleeves *chefs kiss*. The collection progressed to some sleek black looks followed by some in a statement deep red. There was one skirt suit that had intense vintage Valentino vibes, hence it was stunning. Two perfectly tailored trenches appeared in ombre-ish grey shades. The collection ended with a few quirky all-white looks the final one being a feather skirt and a sheer black top worn with a blanket-like cape tied around.
In classic Fendi fashion, the accessories in this collection were definitely the highlight. Cute coin purse, Baguette, Peekaboo, Basket-bags in both muted and bold colors, revived with iterations inspired from the current homey and introspective theme. The netted boots in bright shades were just what we needed along with the woven slides which were perfect for a sunny day out. Finely knitted logo included gloves and socks in a plethora of colors were nice as well.
With an emphasis on home, traditions, and family, this collection was a perfect way for SVL to end her tenure at Fendi womenswear. The collection evoked images of cleanly set dinner tables, vintage home accessories, and just that feeling of home and togetherness. The collection titled ‘Reflections’ proves to be true to its name.
