I’ve always felt Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton was overrated this is definitely one of his best works probably of all time. With a strong 60s influence and an enjoyable color palette, this collection was certainly fun and impactful. Coming down from the 4 escalators that led to a giant white and yellow checkerboard glass runway which was made in collaboration with Daniel Buren. The use of the checks also called Daimer in Louis Vuitton language was done extravagantly yet sensibly.
The collection began and ended with a series of checkered looks in yellow, brown, black, beige, green, great all with white. The continuity of the checks was broken by some more looks in the same color palette with flower motifs on them. These looks seemed to be made for a relatively mature clientele. Then came a few you sheer chequerboard looks in yellow black and white. We saw some looks and similar silhouettes but with a quite subtle shine to them. The bags and shoes were pretty fun too which is kind of perfect for clients of every age, the iconic speedy bags got a funky makeover.
Overall the collection had vintage energy to it with shift dresses, mini skirts, pencil skirts, box suits, and a few crop tops. One of my favorite elements of this collection was models walking in pairs wearing different yet carefully coordinated looks. Though I do at times feel that this was a little lazy but to be so blatant wouldn’t be probably not intentional, the collection seemed to be focused and dedicated to one concept and it was justified sufficiently.
