Karl Lagerfeld is the only person who can make a mirrored runway at the Grand Palais seem minimal(relatively minimal). And let me tell you the collection was anything but simple, with a lot of sparkle and feathers this collection was the definition of glamour, fantasy, and drama.
The collection began with some impeccably tailored suits in pretty pastels such as yellow, blue, green, pink, lavender, and a beautiful grey. Most all of the looks were paired with big complementary square belts. The show gradually moved to more fancy looks, there came a structural white gown with deep energy of elegance and strength. Then came a stunning silver suit that Cara Delevingne wore for the Met Gala 2017. A little black dress with a twisted accentuated waist with a deep yet stiff neckline stole my heart. A few more sumptuous looks though not each one of them was my favorite but it brought the collection together while approaching a wide range of styles and clients. We now advance to the more dramatic and the highlights of this collection, dripping with sparkles, sequins, and feathers. One look that stood out was a flowy light grey gown with tweed and feathers. Feathers that created extravagant silhouettes and blinding sparkles and elevated classic yet powerful gave us the best of Haute Couture. To close the show came Chanel muse Lily Rose-Depp in an immensely ruffled pink gown.
“I wanted something impeccable, clean. I wanted the girls to look like walking fashion drawings,” said Karl Lagerfeld to Vogue and indeed each look was an epitome of perfection and grace. The pure classic femininity and glamor was intriguing and impactful and even though done in an obvious way it will always be something to look back at.
