In these difficult times, we didn’t expect much from Haute Couture or maybe we just didn’t want to. I’ll be honest I skimmed through most of the virtual Spring couture shows. But I guess we all expected a much needed bright splash of color and vividness from Valentino. We didn’t exactly get that but we got something much better.
Extravagant in literally huge gowns all in whites, creams, and shades of silver. This collection felt the most accurate and appropriate show considering the current times. The show was named “The Performance: of Grace and Light, a dialogue between Pierpaolo Piccioli and Nick Knight”. A collection so for away from reality somehow it seemed inspired exactly from that reality. Luring your clients through the limited means and resources in the coronavirus can be difficult especially for Haute Couture which relies on extravagance and a dreamy world. Valentino was probably the few brands who could pull that off. “I didn’t want to feel the limitations. Couture is made for emotions, dreams,” said Piccioli.
There were only 16 looks but one was equal to 10 in size and value. With a load of Ruffles sequins and feathers, each look was truly a representation of traditional Haute Couture. There were also throwbacks to his previous work. With each stunning look this collection will be remembered for a long time and is an ode to Piccioli’s genius.
