New York Magazine stated that “The Most Anticipated Fashion Show in Decades Turned Out to Be Brilliant”. Well, brilliant might be an overstatement but it certainly was something.
The collection starts with men and women walking down the runway in beautifully tailored clothes with clean lines and simple silhouettes but not the usual CK minimalism. The collection was dominated by trench coats and blazers with a pop of print and colors spread throughout the collection.
The first look was a vivid blue shirt with red pants, reminiscent of a uniform of some sort. Similar looks followed in different colors, then came some immaculately tailored coats and suits. One of the highlights of the show was two looks, grey coats paired with green and plum skirts respectively. We saw some sweaters but with a nude sheer center. PVC was used generously on skirts coats and dresses. Next came some more suits and trenches, one double-breasted suit in a deep teal was lovely. A few dresses came with a cutout under the breasts followed by two rather weirdly feathered dresses. There were full denim looks and full black leather looks as well which surprisingly were quite delightful.
Risqué cutouts and deeply feminine looks entangled with the modern essence of CK, the collection was true to Raf Simons but not sure about Calvin Klein. Simons said “I keep thinking of all the beauty here; you have to focus on that now. And I think American youth is the future for this country. It’s about gathering. It’s intelligent, honest, powerful, beautiful. It sounds almost simplistic, maybe.”
