“Women should have choices, and women should feel good in what they wear”
Celine by Phoebe Philo is an era we long for. Few designers completely revolutionize a brand and leave a legacy that no one can match up to. Phoebe was one of them. Her work is often regarded as ‘old Celine’ credits to an Instagram account that documents her pieces. Old Celine is certainly missed, now more than ever.
“I wouldn’t want to even try to begin to describe our customer, as I think she likes a certain amount of anonymity. I try to offer clothes that allow that. I myself do not like being defined so readily, so I imagine that she is similar?” – Phoebe Philo
Philo’s mastery lies in the brazenness of sensibility and understanding. To be so firm and yet flexible with creativity, reality, and luxury and finding the perfect balance between the same is remarkable. Each piece, each look, and each moment crafted with such impeccable textures, silhouettes, and details while indulging femininity and opulence.
As you can imagine I can greatly disappointed with the Hedi Slimane version of Celine, which is basically another YSL. I do think he was good with Saint Laurent but that is simply because he did the rock/Parisian chic well. But his carbon copy efforts at Celine were simply bland. Turns out now her pieces are in more demand than ever, The resale value of her products increased up to 30 percent. With a cult-like following of her work, she cemented herself in the fashion effortlessly and quietly. Phoebe redefined the brand so deeply that getting that image out of our heads and more importantly hearts is next to impossible. She understood what women wanted and needed and gave it to them beautifully. Celine was for women and about women, but sadly it is not anymore.
