So finally Balmain puts out a decent collection. To be honest I sometimes even forget about Balmain, not that I don’t like it or anything it just doesn’t seem very interesting or creative. Maybe I don’t like it. When I saw that the Resort collection I wasn’t sure that I wanted to see it or not but thank god I did. Balmain Resort 2021 is probably one of my favorite collections from the brand yet. I know generally, everyone really likes his work for Balmain but I’ve never been a huge fan, not that it’s bad or anything. Olivier Rousteing has been the creative director for a while now, I do understand that people might like it’s just something that I wouldn’t really care for. He does good work and with exquisite details, his work with colors is certainly bold and kind of great and he does create a sexy Balmain look.
It has all the brand signature and styles but it does have something different, it is definitely more commercial. I didn’t expect a groundbreaking collection this resort season due to the pandemic and this whole 2020 horrible situation that has been going on. But maybe Balmain works better under pressure, not sure what it is but I loved this one. I didn’t hate any of the looks, all were pretty good and they subtly represent Balmain. The colors, the polka dots, the gingham, the blazers the denim all were good. It wasn’t groundbreaking or widely creative it just likable and definitely commercial. Rarely it happens that I like the whole collection and I’m glad it’s Balmain.
