Skin, Poetic, Fragile, Intimate, Narrative, and Imperfection are 6 words that the brand uses to define itself. RUI is a ready-to-wear label founded by designer Rui Zhou, Launched in 2019, the brand has shown thrice at NYFW. I discovered RUI on Instagram, like many others I was blown away. Delicate fabrics held together with nothing but pearls presenting themselves as a second-skin. It is mesmerizing. RUI in its own words aiming to celebrate the poetic elegance in between the skin and the garment. She is redefining the utilitarian pieces and turning them into a work of art.

She said” I use very elastic knitted fabric linked with pearls. It shows the detail on the skin, so it’s really sensitive and emotional. I love the contrast of the fabric with skin color. You can redesign my pieces yourself because each of my looks has two or more layers, which is something that interests me. “

Rui is definitely my favorite and the kind of diversity and body positivity her brand projects is what this industry needs. Her work is a social media hit and seem to have huge potential. Young designers like her are what we want and need. Conceptually magnificent and exceptionally executed RUI is incredible.
