Valentino Garavani once said “I know what women want. They want to be beautiful.” and Pierpaolo is clearly working within the lines of that ideology. His work can be defined as pure magic. With each season he carefully reinforces his signatures and essence onto the collection. When I look at this new Valentino there’s so much going on which can usually be disengaging but not, in this case, the more I am perplexed by it the more I fall in love with it.
“I don’t believe in modernist couture,” Pierpaolo told Vogue. His take on conventional Couture elements has been a constant; Extravagant silhouettes, Enticing colors, and dramatic materials. One of the standout elements in his work is the color palette; Bold, impactful and somehow soothing. When it’s couture, I desire a certain level of effort and indulgence. Apart form the original Couturiers few have been able to attain that, for me, it’s Christian Lacroix for his namesake brand, Galliano for Dior, and Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino.
Pierpaolo Piccioli brought Valentino to life. Be it his Spring 2019 which was one of the most defining couture moments filled with colors, drama, and beauty, or Fall 2020 where he played this enormous gown and silhouettes all in shades of white. Pierpaolo told Vogue “The idea is not to deliver stuff. It’s not to deliver new clothes: It’s to deliver new dreams and new emotions for a new moment.” And not only we got New dreams are what we got we got Fashion, Fantasy, and Love.
